Day 1 (Fri, Jan 18):
Day one of the Outreach in Sikasso was really just a day dedicated
to getting there. The scheduled departure time was 6:00am, and as you
can see, it is not very light out at that time of the morning.

Friday, was a looonnng day. We left ICA at about 6:30am. We
had one unscheduled stop with a flat tire on one of the trailers. That
meant having to stop in the next town and get it repaired. We had a stop
for lunch and got to the Ivoirian border at 3:00pm. We created quite a bit
of interest at all of our stops. Both of the border formalities took us
about three hours. There were 65 passports that had to be stamped and five
vehicles that had to be processed. All in all, the officials were very
nice, it just took a lot of time. We praise the Lord for safety over all
the kilometers.

We arrived at the Church courtyard at about 7:30pm. The ladies of the
church had prepared a nice African meal for us. In keeping with our host
culture, we sat in small groups around a communal bowl and ate with our
hands.

We learned after arriving, that there would NOT be any program that night.
We were both disappointed and relieved. We were prepared to get started
with our purpose for coming, yet it had been a long day and we were very
weary. In the end, it may have been a gift of God's goodness, because we
were able to set up our tent city, take showers and hit the sack early. By
11:00pm lights were out and most eveyone was asleep.
